During this time, Indian rights were developed and expanded as a result of various events. The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885 and played a key role in advocating for Indian rights through nonviolent protests and civil disobedience. The Rowlatt Act of 1919, which allowed for individuals to be imprisoned without trial, sparked widespread protests and added momentum to the movement for Indian rights. In 1947, India gained independence from British colonial rule, leading to the adoption of a constitution in 1948 that included provisions for protecting the rights of all Indian citizens.
