In the 1980s, a conservative ideology emerged because people were tired of big government and high taxes. Margaret Thatcher in the UK and Ronald Reagan in the US adopted conservative policies like cutting taxes, reducing government spending, and deregulating the economy. These policies had different effects in each country, but overall they helped boost economic growth and reduce inflation. Today, some of these conservative policies are still in place, like lower taxes and less government regulation, but some people think they should be changed. Overall, the ideas of Thatcher and Reagan are still influential in politics today, even for fourth graders like me!
