Bile salts

Bile salts are a group of compounds produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder that aid in the digestion and absorption of fats in the small intestine. They help emulsify fats, breaking them down into smaller particles that can be more easily digested by enzymes. Bile salts also play a role in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and cholesterol. They are reabsorbed in the small intestine and recycled by the body, making them a key component of the digestive process.
