What kind of hormone is Follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH) and what does it control in the body?

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a gonadotropin hormone produced and released by the anterior pituitary gland. FSH plays a crucial role in regulating the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles in female reproductive system and spermatogenesis in male reproductive system. In females, FSH stimulates the development and maturation of egg-containing follicles in the ovaries, and in males, it stimulates the production of sperm cells in the testes.
