Excerpt from a research article published January 6, 2022, in an academic journal dedicated to psychology.

Our experiments tested the psychological effect in the present of recalling different types of past memories. Participants were asked to report their current level of satisfaction with their lives. Then, participants randomly assigned to the first group were asked to recall a special moment from childhood. Participants in the second group were asked to recall an ordinary event from childhood. Next, both groups completed questionnaires to gauge their level of gratitude, future outlook, and general demographic information.

The results of our study found a positive relationship between recalling positive memories and gratitude. Participants generally had a more optimistic outlook after recalling a special memory than did participants who recalled neutral events. This research suggests that reminding people of positive memories from their past can boost their gratitude and resilience during difficult periods of life.
