Odysseus found it difficult to persuade the Greek chieftains to go along with his plan because they were weary from the long years of fighting and just wanted to go home. Additionally, many of the chieftains were arrogant and thought they knew better than Odysseus, causing friction and resistance to his ideas. Finally, the chieftains were skeptical of Odysseus's intelligence and cunning, doubting his abilities to outsmart the Trojans and achieve victory.
