I think so many cells were found in the interphase because it is the longest phase of the cell cycle, during which the cells spend the majority of their time carrying out normal functions and preparing for cell division. This means that a higher percentage of cells are likely to be in interphase at any given time compared to the other phases of the cell cycle.
