Area of Composite Figures Practice
Unit 5 lesson 3

1. Find the area of the following composite figure:

A rectangle with dimensions 8 cm by 12 cm, and a smaller rectangle on top with dimensions 4 cm by 8 cm.

To find the total area, first find the area of each rectangle:
- Area of the larger rectangle = 8 cm * 12 cm = 96 cm^2
- Area of the smaller rectangle = 4 cm * 8 cm = 32 cm^2

Total area = 96 cm^2 + 32 cm^2 = 128 cm^2

2. Find the area of the following composite figure:

A triangle with a base of 10 cm and height of 6 cm, and a rectangle with dimensions 10 cm by 4 cm.

To find the total area, first find the area of each shape:
- Area of the triangle = (1/2) * base * height = (1/2) * 10 cm * 6 cm = 30 cm^2
- Area of the rectangle = 10 cm * 4 cm = 40 cm^2

Total area = 30 cm^2 + 40 cm^2 = 70 cm^2

3. Find the area of the following composite figure:

A circle with a radius of 6 cm, and a square with sides of 8 cm.

To find the total area, first find the area of each shape:
- Area of the circle = π * radius^2 = π * 6 cm * 6 cm ≈ 113.1 cm^2
- Area of the square = side^2 = 8 cm * 8 cm = 64 cm^2

Total area = 113.1 cm^2 + 64 cm^2 ≈ 177.1 cm^2.
