One situation in which mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy is in a hydroelectric power plant. In a hydroelectric power plant, the mechanical energy of flowing water is used to turn turbines which are connected to generators. As the turbines spin, they generate electricity which is then transmitted and used as electrical energy.
