The southern manifesto was a document written and signed by Southern members of the U.S. Congress in 1956. It opposed racial integration in public spaces and schools, particularly in response to the Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education. The manifesto called for the preservation of segregation and states' rights to govern race relations in the South.
