'A symbol is a person, place, or thing, or an event that stands for itself and for something beyond itself as well. What do you think the abalone shells symbolize or represent? Consider how the narrator describes the outside of the shell as well as the shell's interior. Discuss the symbolism of shells and use examples from the selection to support your ideas.' - From Abalone, Abalone, Abalone

This is what i got:

The shells in Toshio Mori’s short story Abalone, Abalone, Abalone symbolize how humans lead tough and hard lives, but as long as they have the necessary care, the inner beauty is exposed. The exterior of the shells symbolizes the hard life that human’s face, which has an effect on the physical body and mind. In the story, “scabs of the sea” symbolize the temporary conflicts that humans have in life, representing stresses that people face. Though in the story, these are described as “grime that sticks so that even a needle it did not become clean”, the physical and mental stresses human face eventually go away with time.

Is it OK?
