The electric force between two objects is determined by the charges on the objects and the distance between them. Like charges (positive-positive or negative-negative) repel each other and unlike charges (positive-negative) attract each other. The magnitude of the electric force is determined by the product of the charges on the objects and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
