Tenochtitlan was the capital city of the Aztec Empire, located on an island in Lake Texcoco in what is now Mexico City. It was founded in 1325 and was one of the largest and most powerful cities in Mesoamerica at the time of the Spanish conquest in the early 16th century. The city was known for its impressive architecture, advanced infrastructure, and vibrant marketplace. Tenochtitlan was destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors in 1521 and was replaced by Mexico City as the capital of New Spain.
