Sonny and Torben bought two identical pizzas. Sonny cut his into six equal pieces and ate four of them. Torben cut his into eight equal pieces and ate five of them.

If they combined what was left over, what fraction of one pizza would they have?

Sonny had \(6-4=2\) pieces left, out of 6 pieces, so he had \(\frac{2}{6} = \frac{1}{3}\) of a pizza left. Torben had \(8-5=3\) pieces left, out of 8 pieces, so he had \(\frac{3}{8}\) of a pizza left.

If they combine their leftover pieces, they would have \(\frac{1}{3} + \frac{3}{8} = \frac{8}{24} + \frac{9}{24} = \frac{17}{24}\) of a pizza left.
