Due to their schools' rivalry, Andrew has a bad opinion about Emoryville residents, while Patrick, who is from Emoryville himself, stays silent and feels uncomfortable about Andrew's remarks. These two points of view represent the two opposing viewpoints in the narrative. As Patrick tries to steer the topic away from himself, Andrew inadvertently offends his hometown, which adds to the situation's hilarity. The suspense stems from the uncertainty surrounding Patrick's intention to disclose his origins and Andrew's potential response upon learning of them.

Because of their schools not getting along, Andrew thinks people from Emoryville are not nice. Patrick, who is actually from Emoryville, doesn't say anything and feels awkward about what Andrew is saying. These different thoughts show the two sides in the story. Patrick tries to change the subject so Andrew doesn't find out where he's from. But then Andrew accidentally says something mean about Emoryville, making the situation funny. It's exciting because we don't know if Patrick will tell Andrew where he's from and how Andrew will react.
