Weathering can be caused by plants, ice, water, and wind.Weathered rocks and soil can be moved from one place to another. The moving of weathered rocks and soil by wind, water, or ice is called erosion.
Erosion is both helpful and harmful. In some places, erosion can build up new land and add minerals to the soil. This type of erosion helps farmers grow good crops.
In other places, erosion can take land away. This can be harmful. It can wash away good farmland. It can also wash away the ground under houses, making them unstable.
