I was hesitant at first; I didn’t think I could come up with 20 different stars, but it turned out to be much easier than I expected. As a matter of fact, I came up with more than 20 stars! The activity also made me realize the strong connotations of the star shape. It is very difficult to change the meaning of a star. I wasn’t able to completely change the shape’s meaning, but I did come up with some interesting designs. I found I had to use type to express any feeling of opposition. My favorites include the star with the tiny word coward written inside and the crumpled up star with the word REJECT written through it in red. These two stars are labeled with words that have quite the opposite meanings of the typical connotations of stars.
