In order to survive, animals need to adapt to their environment over many generations. Think about your favorite animal, its physical features, and its environmental challenges. Without doing any outside research, in 3-5 sentences, try to: a) describe what features have likely had to adapt to its environment over time, and b) hypothesize what ways it might have to adapt to environmental changes in the future...

My favorite animal is the polar bear. Its thick, white fur and insulating layer of fat help it retain body heat in the freezing Arctic environment. Over time, polar bears have likely adapted their keen sense of smell and strong swimming abilities to hunt for seals on ice floes. In the future, as their icy habitat continues to melt due to climate change, polar bears may have to adapt by finding alternative sources of food on land or developing new ways to swim longer distances in search of prey. Additionally, they may need to adjust their behaviors to adapt to changing weather patterns and temperatures in order to survive.

My favorite animal is the polar bear. It has thick, white fur and a layer of fat to help keep it warm in the cold Arctic. Polar bears have probably evolved their strong sense of smell and swimming skills to survive in their icy habitat. In the future, with the Arctic melting due to climate change, polar bears may need to find new food sources on land or swim longer distances to find food. They might also have to change how they behave to deal with different weather and temperatures.
