The majority of absorption occurs in the small intestine. The small intestine is where nutrients from the food you eat are absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to the rest of the body to be used for energy, growth, and repair. The small intestine has a large surface area with tiny villi and microvilli that help to increase the absorption of nutrients.
