Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of Roman senators who believed that he was becoming too powerful and that he was a threat to the Roman Republic. They feared that he would declare himself king and establish a monarchy, which went against the political principles of the Republic. In order to prevent this, the senators conspired to kill Caesar on the Ides of March in 44 BC.
