The U.S. opposed Ho Chi Minh because they believed that if Vietnam fell to communism, it would trigger a series of other countries in Southeast Asia to also fall under communist control. This belief was based on President Eisenhower's "domino theory," which stated that if one country in a region came under communist influence or control, then the surrounding countries would also follow. The U.S. feared the spread of communism and the potential threat to national security that it posed. As a result, they saw Ho Chi Minh and his communist regime as a threat to their interests in the region and worked to oppose him and his efforts.
