A solid turn into a gas if enough, thermal energy mass or density is added

to overcome the intermolecular forces holding the particles together. This process is called sublimation. As the solid gains energy, the particles begin to move more rapidly, eventually breaking free from their fixed position and entering the gas phase. The reverse process, where a gas turns directly into a solid, is called deposition. This phase change is a physical process and does not involve any change in the chemical composition of the substance.
