One major difference between the Japanese and European feudal systems is the role of the warrior class. In Japan, the samurai were of higher social standing than the peasants, whereas in Europe, the knights were of a similar status to the nobles and were often landowners themselves. This resulted in a more hierarchical system in Japan compared to the more decentralized feudal system in Europe.
