At the beginning of the chapter, Dr. Dolittle is just a regular doctor who takes care of animals in Puddleby. People in the town think he is strange because he talks to animals and not many people do that. By the end of the chapter, Dr. Dolittle becomes a very special and popular person in Puddleby. The animals all want to be his friend and he even gets invited to tea with the Mayor. This shows that Dr. Dolittle's status in Puddleby has changed from being seen as strange to being seen as important and liked by everyone.
