There is no set number of productions that a director should consider performing in to gain the perspective of an actor. However, it is generally recommended for directors to experience acting in at least a few productions in order to better understand the craft and challenges of actors. This hands-on experience can provide valuable insights and empathy that can inform a director's communication and direction with actors. Ultimately, the more experience a director has as an actor, the better able they may be to collaborate effectively with the performers in their productions.
