What is a Mummy?

A mummy is a dead human or animal whose skin and organs have been preserved by either intentional or accidental exposure to chemicals, extreme cold, very low humidity, or lack of air. This process can occur naturally in some climates or be intentionally done through mummification practices. Mummies are often associated with ancient Egyptian culture, where the process of mummification was used to preserve the bodies of pharaohs and other important individuals for the afterlife.
