Westward expansion drastically altered Native American economics and culture as tribes were forced off their land, onto reservations, and removed from their traditional hunting and gathering grounds. Many Native Americans were forced to adopt new agricultural practices and assimilate into white society as a means of survival. This disruption led to the loss of traditional cultural practices, languages, and economic systems.
