The change in the role of the federal government through the New Deal can be seen as a positive change as it provided much-needed relief and assistance to the American people during the Great Depression. Two effective programs of the New Deal were the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the Social Security Act. The CCC provided jobs for unemployed young men while also working to conserve natural resources and develop state parks. The Social Security Act established a system of retirement pensions, unemployment insurance, and aid to dependent children, providing a safety net for vulnerable populations. However, one ineffective program of the New Deal was the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA), which aimed to raise farm prices by reducing crop supply, but ended up causing food prices to rise and hurting smaller farmers.
