Father Modeste Demers approached Native Americans with respect for their culture and traditions, not seeking to completely assimilate or change them. He focused on building relationships and understanding their way of life, rather than imposing his own beliefs or trying to change theirs. This made him more relatable and acceptable in the eyes of the Native Americans, compared to Protestant missionaries who often tried to force conversion and demanded cultural changes. As a result, Father Demers was able to gain more trust and acceptance among the Native American communities he worked with.
