The cranial nerve most commonly associated with strabismus is the abducens nerve (cranial nerve VI), which controls the lateral rectus muscle responsible for moving the eye outward. Dysfunction of this nerve can lead to a condition known as sixth nerve palsy, which can result in the eyes being misaligned and cause strabismus.
