provide the examples of obedience in social psychology chapter 4

1. Milgram's obedience study: In this famous study, participants were told to administer electric shocks to another person in a supposed learning experiment. Despite hearing the other person's apparent distress, a number of participants continued to administer the shocks when told to do so by an authority figure.

2. The Stanford Prison Experiment: In this study, participants were assigned to be either guards or prisoners in a simulated prison environment. The guards quickly took on their roles of authority and power, leading to abusive behavior towards the prisoners, who obeyed their commands and became submissive.

3. Asch conformity experiments: In Solomon Asch's classic experiments on conformity, participants were asked to match line lengths with others in a group. Even when the correct answer was obvious, many participants went along with the group's incorrect responses simply because the majority did so.

4. Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment: In this study, college students were randomly assigned to play the roles of guards and prisoners in a simulated prison environment. The guards quickly became abusive towards the prisoners, who complied with their commands and began to show signs of psychological distress.
