A developmental biologist studies how organisms grow and develop from a single cell into a complex organism. They investigate the cellular and molecular processes that control development, and how these processes can go awry, leading to birth defects, developmental disorders, and disease. Developmental biologists may conduct experiments using model organisms, such as fruit flies or mice, to better understand the genetic and environmental factors that influence development.
