Intaglio

Intaglio is a printmaking technique in which an image is incised into a surface, typically a metal plate, by cutting or engraving. Ink is then applied to the surface and wiped away, leaving ink only in the incised lines. The plate is then pressed onto paper, transferring the ink to create a printed image. Intaglio prints typically have a rich, velvety appearance due to the depth of the incised lines. Some common intaglio techniques include etching, engraving, drypoint, and aquatint.
