"Sarah sat at her desk nervously tapping her foot, her hands clammy and her heart pounding. She fidgets with her wrinkled dress suit sleeves as she walks inside of her office building, anxiously observing her surroundings and sitting down at her desk. Today was her first day at her new office job, and she was already feeling overwhelmed by all the new faces and the unfamiliar environment. She struggled with social anxiety, making it difficult for her to interact with others and form connections. As she sat there trying to calm her racing mind, a friendly voice interrupted her thoughts.

"Hey there, friend! My name’s Emily. I’m the director of communications around here! You must be… Sarah, right? The new intern? Welcome to the team!" Sarah looked up to see a young woman with a warm smile standing by her desk. Emily seemed confident and outgoing, the complete opposite of Sarah. She stood tall with a bubbly smile, extending her hand out to Sarah in a welcoming manner. Sarah stared at her, confused and a bit wary at Emily’s welcoming friendly demeanor. Despite her anxiety and minor hesitation, Sarah managed to smile back as she introduced herself.

“Um… yep, that’s me. Nice to meet you, I… suppose?” Sarah says, her voice sounding almost shaky and slightly unsure of herself. She reluctantly accepted Emily’s handshake, her hand trembling slightly as she did. Emily could sense Sarah's nervousness and immediately took her under her wing, offering to show her around the office and introducing her to their colleagues. Throughout the day, Emily stayed by Sarah's side, helping her navigate through the introductions and small talk with her co-workers.

As the day went on, Sarah found herself feeling more at ease and even started to engage in conversations with her co-workers. Although most of the time her mannerisms during those conversations seemed forced and a tad bit awkward, Emily still had hope for Sarah, despite her lack of social skills and just general timidity. Emily's presence and support made a world of difference for Sarah, and she was grateful to have found a friend in her.

By the end of her first day, Sarah felt a sense of accomplishment and relief. She realized that with the right support and understanding, she could overcome her social anxiety over time and thrive in her new job. As she packed up her things to head home, Sarah quickly turned to thank Emily for everything she helped her with throughout the long and tiring day.

“I, uh… Thank you, Emily. For today, I mean.” Sarah murmurs shyly, smiling up at Emily with a now trusting and almost happy smile. “Oh… yeah! It’s no biggie. Just doing what’s right, you know?” Emily says, smiling down at Sarah with her usual friendly smile and bubbly attitude. As they begin to part their separate ways, Emily visibly perks up, facing Sarah yet again with her hands confidently on her hips.

“Hey, Sarah! Would you maybe want to stop by my favorite café? Only if you’re free, of course! Oh, and… don’t worry about the pay. It’s on me this time!” Emily suddenly chimes, quickly looking back at Sarah yet again. Sarah chuckles softly before nodding, following behind her with a contented smile on her face. With a newfound confidence and a newfound friendship, Sarah was finally ready to face the challenges ahead and build a brighter future for herself."
