The Korean War ended in a ceasefire agreement in 1953. The result was the division of Korea into two separate countries, North Korea and South Korea, along the 38th parallel. The border between the two countries remains heavily militarized to this day. The war technically never ended, as a formal peace treaty was never signed, and both North and South Korea remain in a state of armistice.
