Papa walked home from the train station with a heavy heart, knowing that he had failed to provide for his family once again. As he trudged up the stairs to his apartment, he could hear Mama bustling around in the kitchen, preparing dinner.

When he entered the apartment, he found Mama at the stove, a worried look on her face. "Papa, where have you been? We were so worried about you," she exclaimed.

Papa hung his head in shame. "I'm sorry, Mama. I couldn't find any work today," he mumbled.

Mama sighed and shook her head. "It's alright, Papa. We'll figure something out. The most important thing is that you're home safe."

Just then, Maud Martha and Helen came running into the kitchen, their faces lighting up when they saw their father. "Papa! You're home!" Maud Martha exclaimed, throwing her arms around him.

Papa hugged his daughters tightly, feeling a surge of love for his family. "I'm home, my girls. And I promise I will do everything in my power to provide for you," he vowed.

Mama smiled at Papa, her eyes full of love and understanding. "We'll get through this together, Papa. We always do," she said.

And as they sat down to dinner that night, Papa felt a sense of gratitude for the love and support of his family. Despite the financial hardships they faced, they knew that as long as they had each other, they would always have everything they needed.
