Jimmy Carter served as Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975, representing the Democratic Party. He then went on to serve as a United States Senator from Georgia from 1963 to 1967. Carter was elected as the 39th President of the United States in 1976 and served one term in office from 1977 to 1981.
