3 Vocabulary Terms - Define/Illustrate

1. 3 Dimensional Polygons: 2. Prisms and Pyramids

3. Height vs Slant height

1. 3 Dimensional Polygons: These are polygons that exist in three dimensions, with length, width, and height. Examples include cubes, rectangular prisms, and pyramids. Illustration: A cube is a three-dimensional polygon with six congruent square faces.

2. Prisms and Pyramids: Prisms are polyhedra with two parallel and congruent bases, connected by rectangular or parallelogram faces. Pyramids, on the other hand, have a polygonal base and triangular faces that meet at a single point called the apex. Illustration: A rectangular prism has two parallel bases that are rectangles, while a pyramid has a polygonal base and triangular faces.

3. Height vs Slant Height: The height of a three-dimensional figure is the perpendicular distance between the base and the top of the figure. The slant height, on the other hand, is the distance between the base and the top along a slanted line. In a pyramid, the slant height is the length of the slanted face from the base to the apex. Illustration: In a pyramid with a square base, the height is the perpendicular distance from the base to the apex, while the slant height is the length of one of the slanted triangular faces.
