sural nerve

The sural nerve is a sensory nerve located in the leg. It is a branch of the tibial nerve and provides sensation to the skin on the outer side of the foot and the lateral part of the ankle. Damage to the sural nerve can result in symptoms such as numbness, tingling, and pain in the foot and ankle. This nerve can be injured through trauma, compression, or other conditions such as peripheral neuropathy. Treatment for sural nerve damage may include physical therapy, medication, or in severe cases, surgery.
