The first mesoamerican civilization began

around 1200 BCE in the region of present-day Mexico. This civilization, known as the Olmec civilization, is considered to be one of the earliest complex societies in Mesoamerica. The Olmec people were known for their monumental architecture, including large stone heads and pyramids, as well as their sophisticated artistic and agricultural practices. Their civilization thrived for several centuries before eventually declining and being succeeded by other Mesoamerican cultures such as the Maya and Aztec civilizations.
