One of the main goals that labor unions achieved for workers in the late 1800s was the establishment of the 8-hour workday. Prior to the labor movement, workers often had to work long hours in unsafe conditions for little pay. Labor unions fought for and successfully won the right for workers to have a standard 8-hour workday, allowing them more time for rest, leisure, and family.
