Read the short story below and use it to answer the question that follows.

Melody's parents were proud of her talent and achievements and always encouraged her to do her best. She shared her parent's enthusiasm and always tried her best. However, there was one subject where her views differed from her mother's. Melody had some free time after school and wanted to join the school music club. The students in the group learned both to sing and play an instrument, which Melody found extremely interesting. However, her mother wanted her to join the debate class and learn to be a speaker. Her mother had no idea about Melody's desire to learn music. Furthermore, Melody was afraid of telling her mother about it because she feared that her mother might be disappointed with her choice.
One day after school, as Melody was walking in the school corridor with her friends, a bright blue flyer on the message board caught her eye. It was a flyer encouraging students to join the music club. But, the flyer right next to the blue one was for students auditioning to join the debate club. Melody gazed intently at both flyers and knew what she wanted to do; there was no question about it.
Oh, this is such a mess! Mom is going to be furious with me, Melody thought when she reached home that afternoon. Her father was home that day and noticed Melody's nervous expression.
"What's wrong, Melody?" he asked, switching off the television. Melody sighed in frustration and told her father everything. Her father nodded silently, understanding Melody's difficulty well.
"What do I do, Dad?" Melody asked.
"Talk to your mom. I'm sure she will understand the situation once she knows what you like and are interested in. Once you tell her where your heart lies, she will gladly support you."
With this advice in her mind, Melody spoke to her mother in the evening and told her about her desire to study music. Toward the beginning, her mother was silent and thoughtful. However, when she noticed how Melody's face lit up as she spoke about music so passionately, she gave in and smiled.
"Sweetheart, you can do whatever you like. I know you are capable of doing anything you set your heart to," her mother said and hugged Melody.
Melody felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off her heart, and she went to bed with the biggest smile. The next day at school, after her classes, she immediately went to the music teacher and signed up for the music club.
