The title "The Great Gatsby" may be ironic because while Gatsby appears great on the surface with his extravagant lifestyle and parties, he is actually deeply flawed and ultimately tragic. Gatsby is a complex character who is driven by his desire to attain the love of Daisy Buchanan and achieve social status, but his obsession with the past and inability to truly connect with others ultimately lead to his downfall. Despite his wealth and charisma, Gatsby's inability to be true to himself and his unattainable dreams make it questionable whether he is truly "great."
