An oratorio is a large-scale musical work for orchestra and voices, typically based on a religious or sacred text and performed without costumes, sets, or staging. Oratorios are similar to operas, but are usually focused on spiritual or moral themes rather than telling a story. Handel's "Messiah" is one of the most famous examples of an oratorio.
