Opera's fame spread to the world from the city of Florence, Italy. It was during the Renaissance period in the 16th century that opera first emerged and gained popularity in Florence, with composers such as Jacopo Peri and Giulio Caccini creating some of the earliest operas. Opera soon spread to other Italian cities such as Venice, Rome, and Milan, and eventually to other countries in Europe and beyond.
