Personal Narrative: My First Soccer Game
Victoria Martinez
Introduction:
Hi, I’m here to tell you about my fun first soccer game! It was intense, and cool at the same time!
Do you know what soccer games are like? Keep reading to hear about this thriller!
Why I Joined Soccer:
At first I just wanted to try a new sport out, I didn’t know how fun it was going to be or how cool
my teammates were. I love sports either way so I decided to join!
Practice:
Every Monday and Wednesday, we’d go to soccer practice. The first time me and my sister
came, we introduced ourselves; like everyone else. It was an all girl team for 5-7th graders, yet
my sister had just joined 8th, but it wasn’t that big of a deal so we kept her either way. One time
during practice, it started to rain HEAVY. It was really fun to play in a new type of weather. We
also had matches against other teams such as the highschoolers or 3-4th grade boys. The
funny thing about the 3rd grade boys was their goal was so small. It was so hard to get a single
goal in.
First goal; last goal:
So, the very next month we joined soccer; after joining the team. We had our first match on field
3.
Yellow (us) V.S Light Blue
We had played for a bit, every few minutes there was a new goal from them and us. And a loop
of that. At the first whistle, we were 2 to 2. It was so exciting yet exhausting since I wasn’t used
to playing this sport. We got back in the game, and I was MOTIVATED! I got up, tied up my
cleats, and got back in the game after saying who goes where. I got right forward. (to the right of
the middle of the field) All forwards' jobs are keeping the ball, running with it, shooting it in the
opposite goal, getting the ball kicked at your back for dodging it, and passing. It’s overall my
second favorite thing in soccer because it’s the most active but midfield is both protecting and
working a lot so it’s my overall favorite. I had the ball since my teammate kicked it the closest to
me, so I took the ball and ran with it. We had to do lots of corner kicks (putting the ball back in
bounds by kicking it from the corner) because light blue kept kicking in out of bounds. Eventually
sometime later, I got the ball back. With a very sucky new player kick, I kicked it into the goal!

Why I Joined Soccer:
Initially, I decided to try out soccer as a new sport and was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable and engaging it turned out to be. Being someone who loves sports, I was drawn to the idea of joining a team and decided to give soccer a try.

Practice:
Our team had practice sessions every Monday and Wednesday, where I had the opportunity to bond with my teammates. Despite the challenges like playing in heavy rain, I found the experience to be both challenging and enjoyable. We also had matches against different teams, including high school students and younger boys. It was a fun and diverse experience that helped me improve my skills.

First goal; last goal:
During my first match on field 3, I found myself in an exhilarating game against the Yellow team. After a back and forth battle, we were tied 2-2 at the first whistle. I was motivated to perform well and took on the position of a forward. Despite the challenges, I managed to secure a goal for my team through perseverance and determination. It was a memorable moment that highlighted the thrill of playing soccer.

In conclusion, my first soccer game was a mix of excitement, challenge, and satisfaction. It was a significant experience that marked the beginning of my journey in the world of soccer.
