My explanatory essay is about the L.E. Phillips Planetarium. The L.E. Phillips Planetarium is an exiting place to learn about space. Located in the Phillips Science Hall, this stellar experience is one to remember. As you walk through the doors, you are greeted with darkness. The building is a dome and there are cushioned seats all around it. When everyone’s in they will shut the doors and begin. The guide(s) project a screen that shows our galaxy, while pointing out the different stars and constellations. The guide answers questions, teaches you about our universe, and talks about everything in between. This is one of the interesting buildings in my city because you get to have so much fun, while learning about subjects you wouldn’t normally learn about.
I went there last year with a couple other classes, and we had a picnic on the field, did some outdoor experiments, and got to spend time in the planetarium. We eventually learned all of the planets by heart, memorized the constellations and got to talk to some of the science professors at the college.
This impressive building cost over $1 million to make and charges $75 per 1 hour show. I think it’s worth the money though, because it educates people of all ages about the wonders of space.
