Thrombocytopenia

Thrombocytopenia is a condition characterized by a lower than normal number of platelets in the blood. Platelets are responsible for blood clotting, so a decrease in platelet count can lead to an increased risk of excessive bleeding or bruising. Thrombocytopenia can be caused by a variety of factors, including certain medications, autoimmune disorders, infections, and cancer. Treatment for thrombocytopenia depends on the underlying cause and may include medications, blood transfusions, or other therapies.
