One more time: What is Romanticism?

a mid-1700s campaign to support industrialization, urbanization, secularization, and consumerism.

a mid-1700s REACTION to the many ways the world was becoming more modern (industrialization, the growth of cities and the decline of rural areas, increased consumerism, and increased focus on the secular over the spiritual).

This response is inaccurate.

Romanticism was actually an artistic, literary, musical, and intellectual movement that originated in Europe towards the end of the 18th century. It emphasized emotions, individualism, nature, and the supernatural. Romanticism was a reaction against the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution, valuing intuition over reason and the beauty of the natural world. Prominent figures associated with Romanticism include William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron, and Mary Shelley.
