Jimmy Carter began his political career as a state senator in Georgia in 1963, eventually serving as governor from 1971 to 1975. He then won the presidential election in 1976, becoming the 39th President of the United States. During his presidency, Carter faced numerous challenges, including the Iran hostage crisis, high inflation, and an energy crisis. Despite his efforts to address these issues through diplomacy and policy measures, Carter was defeated in his bid for re-election in 1980 by Ronald Reagan. After leaving office, Carter remained active in public service through his work with the Carter Center and various humanitarian efforts.
